The Northeast Expedition 2006

Between October 19 th and Novemver 16 th ,two of the best paragliding pilots of Brazil will be in Patu, Rio Grande do Norte, trying to break world-wide records in distance flights.

This will be the fourth time that SOL Paragliders organizes the Northeast Expedition. The previous editions have been successful and the equipment manufactured by SOL have established new world-wide records in many categories.

In this edition the new competition paraglider Tracer will be tested and a new DHV 1-2 paraglider ELLUS 2 will be submitted to extreme conditions. The main objectives are solo and double world-wide records in the Free and Declared categories.

The records

::: Free Record It is the distance flew by a pilot in just one flight, without putting feet on the floor. The kilometrage is measured in a straight line, from the taking off point until the landing point.

Nowadays the Free Solo worldwide record is 423.4km, obtained in Texas (USA) and the South American is 380km, obtained in Quixada- Ceará/Brazil.

When the category is double, the flight in performed in a double (pilot and passenger) equipment. The current record is 299 km with Kangaroo 2 in 2004 by the pilot André Fleury and the passenger Claudia Otilia.

::: Objective of the Northeast Expedition 2006 To reach 450km, the equivalent distance between São Paulo and Belo Horizonte in a regular flight..

::: Declared record It is the distance flew by a pilot who before his/her take-off had declared the place where would land or pass, with a ± 3km precision.

Nowadays the Declared Solo world-wide record is 355km, obtained in Patu/Rio Grande do Norte by the pilot André Fleury, who flew with Dynamic AR-F2 in 2005.

When the flight is double, it is done in a double equipment with a pilot and the passenger. The current Declared record is 284 km with Kangaroo 2 in 2004 by the pilot André Fleury and the passenger Claudia Otilia.

::: Objective of the Norteast expedition The objectives are the world-wide records in the Solo and Double categories.
