After the successful NORDESTE 2003 expedition, when three of the world free flight distance records were broken, SOL Paragliders and its sponsored pilots once again face the

challenge of the Brazilian caatinga. With a higher knowledge of the area, a larger support structure and new pilots, SOL hopes to once again make history, surpassing the barrier of 300km for double flights and 430km for solo flights.

The Records

:::: Free Solo It is the distance traveled by a pilot in a single flight, without touching the ground. The distance is measured in a straight line from the point of departure to the point of arrival. The present solo flight record is 423,4km, obtained in Texas/USA and the South American record is 337km, obtained in Quixadá/CE.

The pilots of the 2004 expedition are looking forward to reaching 450km, equivalent to a flight between São Paulo/SP and Belo Horizonte/MG.

:::: Declared Solo Flight Is the distance traveled by a pilot who, before take off, determines where he would land or pass with a precision of +3km. The present world and South American record of this style is 282km, registered in Quixadá in the state of Ceará.

One of the goals of the 2004 expedition is to break the 310km barrier which is equivalent to a flight between Curitiba/PR and Florianópolis/SC.

:::: Free Double It is the distance traveled by a pilot and a passenger in a single flight, without touching the ground. The distance is measured in a straight line from the point of departure to the point of arrival. The present double free flight record is 299,5km, obtained during the 2003 expedition in Patu/RN.

The objective of the 2004 expedition is to reach 330km, equivalent to a flight between Sao Paulo/SP and Curitiba/PR.

:::: Declared Tandem Flight Is the distance traveled by a pilot and a passenger who, before take off, determines where he would land or pass with a precision of +3km. The present world and South American record of this style is 278km, registered during the 2003 expedition in Patu/RN.

The goal of the participants of the 2004 expedition is to register 320km, equivalent to a flight between Maceió/AL and João Pessoa/PB.
